Doug Everett  
BIOGRAPHY
 

Doug Everett has served on the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) since January 1, 2003.

In his role as Commissioner, Doug works full-time to represent Georgia residents in the regulation of public utilities and telecommunications present throughout the state. He constantly monitors and affects policies aimed at protecting the interests of residents regarding their basic, quality-of-life services.

Doug is a native of Cordele, just north of his current home in the City of Albany. Early in his career, he was a member of the Albany Zoning and Planning Board of Appeals, Board of Tax Assessors and served three times on the Albany City Commission.

Prior to his PSC service, he was also a member of the State House of Representatives, where he represented Albany for three terms beginning in 1997. As State Representative, Doug was a part of the House's Industry Committee and the Subcommittee on Utilities.

Beyond Doug's years of service in elected office, he pursued entrepreneurial opportunities and had the skills to maintain a successful small business. He started his own company - Southern Appraisal Co. - and began independently appraising industrial and commercial properties in 1974. By 1980, he had achieved the highest professional designation available to members of his industry.

Doug and his wife, Janice,have been married for 48 years. The Everett's have three adult children: Mitch Everett, a vice president with Atlantic Capital Bank; Denice Everett, a teacher with White County High Schools; and Mike Everett, owner of the Southern Appraisal Co.

Doug and Janice reside in the Doublegate community of Albany, and they have lived in Dougherty County for 35 years. Doug has been active with the Albany Rotary Club, Sylvester Kiwanis and Sylvester Jaycees, where he has served in officer positions. In his time out of office, he enjoys golfing, hunting, leisure travel,radio-controlled aircraft and classic trains.
